Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 14, 2026
The short version: Spytrap runs entirely on your device. We don't have an account system, we don't use analytics or advertising, and we never collect, upload, sell, or share your data. The app exists to protect your privacy — it doesn't take any.
This Privacy Policy explains how the Spytrap mobile application ("Spytrap", "the app", "we", "us") handles information. By using Spytrap you agree to this policy.
1. What Spytrap does
Spytrap detects when other apps on your device access the camera or microphone, using your operating system's own sensor-access signals. It records these access events locally so you can review them, and it can notify you when an app uses a sensor in the background. Spytrap is a detection and awareness tool: it tells you what is happening so you can take action through your device's settings.
2. Information we collect
We do not collect any personal information. Spytrap has no user accounts and asks for no personal details — no name, email, phone number, or location.
To do its job, the app processes the following information locally on your device only:
- Sensor-access events — the package name of the app that used the camera or microphone, the sensor type, timestamps, duration, and whether the access happened in the foreground or background.
- A list of installed apps that hold camera or microphone permissions, used to identify likely sources of background access.
- Your in-app preferences (such as which apps you have marked as "trusted" and your notification settings).
This information is stored in a private database on your device and is never transmitted off the device.
Important: Spytrap does not request the camera or microphone permission for itself, and it cannot and does not access, record, or read any photos, video, or audio. It only observes that a sensor was used and by which app — never the content.
3. Permissions we use, and why
- Usage access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS): lets Spytrap identify which app is in the foreground at the moment a sensor is used, so it can attribute the access to the right app.
- Notifications: lets Spytrap alert you when an app accesses a sensor, especially in the background or while your device is locked.
- Run a foreground service / run in the background: lets Spytrap keep monitoring even when the app is closed or removed from recents.
- Query installed apps: lets Spytrap recognize which installed apps hold camera or microphone permissions in order to identify possible sources of background access.
- Ignore battery optimizations (optional): if you allow it, helps prevent the system from stopping background monitoring.
All of these permissions are used solely to provide the app's core functionality on your device. None are used for tracking or advertising.
4. How your information is used
The information described above is used only to: detect and display camera/microphone access, alert you to suspicious activity, calculate per-app trust indicators, and remember your settings. All processing happens on your device.
5. Data sharing and third parties
We do not share your information with anyone, because it never leaves your device. Spytrap contains no advertising networks, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and no third-party data collection. We do not sell or rent any information.
6. Data storage and retention
All Spytrap data is stored locally on your device. It remains there until you delete it within the app, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app — at which point it is permanently removed. We hold no copy because we never receive one.
7. Data security
Because your data stays on your device, it is protected by your device's own security (lock screen, encryption, and app sandboxing). Since nothing is transmitted or stored on our servers, there is no remote database to be breached.
8. Children's privacy
Spytrap is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
9. Your choices and control
You are always in control. You can revoke any permission at any time in your device's system settings, clear Spytrap's stored events from within the app, or uninstall the app to remove all of its data. Revoking the usage-access permission will stop attribution and monitoring.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, within the app. Continued use of Spytrap after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
